REIP has new members in its executive secretariat

After completing 2 years of REIP's creation, new country representatives join the network's executive secretariat for the next biennium.

Colombia and Uruguay are the two new countries represented in the REIP secretariat, replacing Argentina and Chile.

Brazil maintains with its representation.

New representatives from REIP's executive secretariat:


Piedad Cecilia Serpa Pérez

Coordinator and professor at the Department of Clinical Management and Patient Safety and the Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Collaborative Practice (CP) strategy at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Faculty of Medicine at the University of Santander, Piedad is a doctor with a master's degree in management of health services, health quality and patient safety, co-founder and member of UNIREDEIP (Academic Network for Interprofessional Education in the Americas), whose mission is to develop actions at university level and collaborative work that favor the advancement of the IPE and CP strategy, to contribute to the transformation of education and human talent in health and achieve the best results in patients, families and communities in the region of the Americas. She is also a member of the IPE Colombia team to advance the actions of IPE and CP in the country.


Francisco Ariza Montoya

Representative of the Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection at REIP, Ariza is a sanitary doctor with 20 years of experience in health education and research processes. He participated in the formulation and management of public health and education policies, as well as in the design and execution of social research projects with a transdisciplinary and intercultural approach. In the Colombian health system, he led the development of models of primary health care. He was a university professor in public health, health policies, interprofessional education, family and community health, ethics and social responsibility in health, among others. He is currently the coordinator of the health education group of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Colombia and a reference for the national group of Interprofessional Education in Health (IPE), an instance of intersectoral coordination that coordinates at national level the process of implementation of the IPE. Ariza is the delegate of the Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection for international IPE meetings and processes.


Mercedes Pérez

Professor at the Faculty of Nursing at the University of the Republic of Uruguay, holding the position of Full Professor of the Maternal and Child Department, Mercedes has been the dean of the Faculty of Nursing since 2013. She has a degree in nursing, specializing in Maternal and Child Nursing and in health service management. Member of the Board of Directors of the Latin American Association of Colleges and Schools of Nursing (UDUAL, from 2013 to today). Member of the Nursing Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Health and of the Advisory Group of the Honorary Presidency of Covid. She participated in technical meetings on interprofessional education (IPE) organized by PAHO / WHO in Bogotá, Brasília and Buenos Aires. She Implemented activities to promote IPE in Uruguay, according to the Plan presented at the First Technical Meeting of IPE in Bogotá (2016), with activities to raise awareness about the theme and initiatives for faculty development. Mercedes also promoted in the health area of the University of the Republic the formulation of interprofessional elective courses and publicized in several events the importance of IPE, as well as the normative conditions of the University of the Republic for its implementation.

She published an editorial for the Journal of the Association of Colleges and Schools of Nursing in Latin America and the Caribbean (UDUAL), with an approach on the value of IPE, also participating in round tables and presentations at various international conferences on the same theme. She is a member of UNIREDEIP.
