Brazil launches online course on Interprofessional Education in Health

The objective of the course is to do a first approximation of the theoretical-conceptual and methodological bases of Interprofessional Health Education as a device for the development of collaborative competences.

The REIP is the newest member of the World Coordination Committee of the All Together Better Health

Recently (April 9, 2018), REIP (Regional Network for Interprofessional Education in the Americas - REIP, Spanish acronym) was accepted as a member of World Coordinating Committee “All Together Better Health” (WCC – ATBH). This achievement represents an advance for the newly created regional network.

Between the 30th of May and the 2nd of June, the 13th International Congress of the United Network is held in Brazil, in the city of Manaus, in the State of Amazonas.

With great interest on the part of the attendees, from May 24 to 25 the XVIII Conference of Education in Health Sciences of Chile was held, whose central theme this year was "Interprofessional education in the area of health".

The Importance of the Regional Network for Interprofessional Health Education in the Americas from the International Health Perspective

In the context of Interprofessional Health Education (IPE) activities taking place in Argentina, the project “Strategies for strengthening IPE from the international health perspective” was presented at the 2017 meeting of PAHO’s Edmundo Granda Ugalde Leaders in International Health (PLSI) Program.

The new administrative technical standard of health programs for adults and the elderly persons in Panama focuses on Interprofessional Education

On May 16 and 17, the National Team of the Adult and Senior Health Program of the General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Panama held the workshop to update the participants to use the new standard of health care for adults, elderly persons on clinical trials history. In the activity directed to the local staff, which includes doctors, nurses, social workers and directors, the focus of Interprofessional Education was present.

Dr. Raquel de Mock, family physician and coordinator of the Adult and Elderly Health Program, is responsible for the event's organizing team and for being a member of the standards development technical committee. She participated in the regional technical meeting on Interprofessional Education, held in December in Brazil, organized by PAHO.

The Panama workshop is an activity of the plan for the implementation of the IEP in the country, in accordance with the commitment established at that technical meeting.

As part of the agenda of the event, an exhibition was held on interprofessional education for collaborative work in primary care and resolution of practical exercises of cases through interprofessional team.

One of the important results demonstrated at the event is the incorporation of the EIP approach to the recent Technical Administrative Standard for Adult and Elderly Health Programs for use in all units of the Ministry of Health that offer primary health care.

Colombia holds the Second National Workshop on Interprofessional Education (IPE)

On May 8 and 9, 2018, the Second National Workshop on Interprofessional Education was held in the city of Bogotá.

The objectives of the event were: to expand the call to ensure greater participation of institutions interested in the IPE issue; disclose and disseminate information regarding IPE; discuss the demonstration experiences in IPE and identify needs to strengthen experiences in IPE in the national and international context.

Website of the Regional Network of Interprofessional Education of the Americas is launched in Cuba Salud - 2018

On the last day of the Cuba Health Convention, the website of the Regional Network of Interprofessional Education of the Americas (REIP) was launched during the panel: Interprofessional Health Education in the Context of the Regional Strategy on Human Resources for Health.The launch was organized by Jose Rodrigues Freire Filho, International Professional Consultant, and facilitated by Dr. José Francisco Garcia Gutierrez, Advisor in the Human Resources Department of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO). In attendance were Dr. Cláudia Brandão, Director of the Department of Health Education Management of the Ministry of Health of Brazil and Dr. Marcos del Risco, Director of the Department of Human Resources of the Ministry of Health of Cuba.

The event, Cuba Salud, is an important conference that encourages the sharing of current and future public health challenges at the global level, with an emphasis on the response that countries must give to the needs that the world faces today in issues such as safety and quality of medical care, emerging and reemerging diseases, efficient and sustainable health systems, international cooperation in health, medical education, universal access and universal health coverage, among others.
