El Salvador holds the 4th National Forum on Human Talent in Health on the subject of interprofessional education
On November 9, 2018, the Ministry of Health of the Government of El Salvador, with support from the Superior Council of Public Health, Salvadoran Institute of Social Security, University of El Salvador and Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO), held the 4th National Forum on Human Talent in Health.
The 4th National Forum on Human Talent in Health had the purpose of strengthening the planning of management processes and development of human talent in the country, through the socialization of the Action Plan on human resources for universal access to health and coverage Universal Health 2018-2023, approved by the Member States of PAHO / WHO, and share experiences of interprofessional education (IPE) and the observatory of human resources in health at the international and national levels.
With the participation of a total of 100 people, from the Ministry of Health, Salvadoran Social Security Institute, Universities, Health Professional Associations, Ministry of Education, National Health Forum, Human Rights Procurator, Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Ministry of Finance, and other institutions, one of the highlights of the event was the realization of the Panel: Experiences of Interprofessional Education.
The session was moderated by Dr. Jeannine Calderón, Director of the School of Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine / University of El Salvador and presented by Dr. Evelyn Flores de Nieto, Chief Training Unit of the Department of Human Resources of the Ministry of Health of El Salvador and Dr. Elena Ruth Polanco de Bonilla, Coordinator of the Community Health Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of El Salvador.
The objective of the panel was to present the IPE experience of the school of medical technology of the University of El Salvador, the internship experience in interprofessional education carried out in Brazil and the teaching practices of the Primary Health Care in different spaces, with incorporation of the IPE approach.
Another session at the event was the presentation of the Action Plan on Human Resources for Universal Access to Health and Universal Health Coverage 2018-2023 and its indicators, carried out by PAHO / WHO.
On the occasion, the plan for the implementation of the IPE in El Salvador for the years 2018 - 2019 was presented, demonstrating that the country is organizing its actions to achieve the goals of the plan of the human resources of PAHO, including the subject of the IPE.
El Salvador is the 19th country that presents the IPE plan for PAHO / WHO.
The event was chaired by the Vice Minister of Health Policy, Dr. Eduardo Espinoza, dean of the University of El Salvador, Dr. Maritza Bonilla, representative of PAHO / WHO in El Salvador, Dr. Hilda Leal, health services adviser and Mr. Pedro Rosalío Escobar, President of the Superior Council of Public Health, CSSP.
